Charlotte de Witte brought techno to the desert during Starlight Festival’s second main festival night, billed for October 10, performing with the Great Pyramids of Giza as her backdrop. Footage from the appearance captures a meeting of contemporary electronic music and one of the world’s most recognizable ancient settings.
The Belgian DJ’s appearance concluded the main-stage program for the festival’s second night. The official timetable placed her at 1:00 a.m., following Enrico Sangiuliano. Although billed as part of the October 10 program, that scheduled start time falls in the early hours of October 11. Michael Bibi and Cloonee also appeared on the second night’s main-stage schedule.
Two Nights With the Pyramids as a Backdrop
Starlight’s main festival nights took place on October 9 and 10, with a separate welcome party on October 8 and a closing party on October 11 at ZED Park in Cairo. The first main festival night featured Adriatique, alongside a back-to-back set from Pete Tong and Vintage Culture. WhoMadeWho and Satori were also on that night’s schedule.
Across the two main festival nights, the lineup brought house, melodic electronic music and techno into the same setting. Charlotte de Witte and Enrico Sangiuliano formed the final sequence of the second night’s main-stage program, while Adriatique and Vintage Culture were part of the preceding night’s bill.
Who Was Behind Starlight Festival?
Starlight Festival was co-produced by EXIT Festival and P+US, the electronic music platform of Venture Lifestyle. The event formed part of EXIT’s international expansion, pairing the Serbian festival organization with an entertainment and hospitality company based in Egypt.
In its official announcement , EXIT clarified that the festival would use a specially designated location with the pyramids serving as the backdrop. That distinction places the performance near the monuments, rather than directly on the ancient structures.
