Congress Passes American Music Tourism Act, Sending Bill to President

Congress has passed the American Music Tourism Act, sending legislation to the President that would formally make music tourism part of the federal government’s strategy for promoting travel within the United States.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed S. 195 by voice vote on September 15, 2026, following Senate passage by unanimous consent in May 2025. The enrolled version of the bill was published by the U.S. Government Publishing Office on September 18.

What the American Music Tourism Act Does

The legislation amends the Visit America Act and directs the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Travel and Tourism to identify locations and events that are important to music tourism and promote domestic travel to them.

NIVA notes that the legislation’s definition of music tourism reaches beyond major arenas and destination festivals, encompassing travel to concerts and live performances as well as venues of all sizes, museums, studios, historic sites and other music-related destinations.

It also places music alongside other established drivers of U.S. tourism by incorporating music-related destinations into efforts aimed at international travelers.

Why It Matters to the Live Music Business

For the live entertainment industry, the significance is not simply that the federal government is promoting concerts. The legislation formally recognizes live music as part of the country’s tourism economy.

A concert can create spending well beyond the ticket itself. Fans traveling for an event may also spend money on hotels, restaurants, transportation, retail and other businesses surrounding a venue or festival site.

That economic effect is particularly important for independent operators.

According to the National Independent Venue Association, independent venues, festivals and promoters generate approximately $153 billion in annual economic output, contribute approximately $86 billion directly to U.S. GDP and support more than 907,000 jobs.

NIVA estimates that independent stages are also responsible for more than $10.6 billion in annual visitor spending on lodging, dining, shopping and local transportation.

Independent Venues and Promoters Are Included

One of the more notable elements of the legislation is its explicit inclusion of music destinations at different scales.

The federal tourism strategy is not limited to stadium tours or nationally recognized festivals. Smaller concert venues, independent festivals and other live-music destinations can also fall within the definition of music tourism.

For independent promoters, that distinction matters. A smaller independent event may be modest relative to an arena show, but it can still attract visitors from outside the immediate market and generate spending across hotels, restaurants, transportation and surrounding businesses.

The Act therefore reflects an economic reality that has long existed in live entertainment: the impact of a show extends beyond the venue doors.

Music Tourism Becomes a Federal Tourism Priority

The American Music Tourism Act does not create a new concert subsidy program or directly fund promoters and venues. Instead, it changes how the federal tourism apparatus identifies and promotes music-related destinations.

That distinction is important. The legislation is primarily about tourism promotion and recognition, rather than direct financial assistance to the live-events industry.

If signed into law, implementation would fall to the Department of Commerce through its travel and tourism responsibilities. NIVA has said it intends to work with the Department of Commerce on implementation once the legislation becomes law.

The development has also begun receiving attention within electronic music media. EDM.com reported on the bill on September 21, emphasizing its implications for festivals, venues and other music destinations.

A Broader View of the Concert Economy

For promoters, venues and festival producers, the legislation puts a federal policy framework around something the live-music business already understands: people routinely travel because of music.

Whether the destination is a major festival, a historic club, an independent theater or a one-night electronic music event, the ticket purchase is often only one component of the visitor’s total economic activity.

That broader economic reach is also visible in record-setting international touring, where major electronic artists are increasingly drawing large audiences across multiple markets.

The American Music Tourism Act gives that relationship between live music and travel explicit recognition in federal tourism policy.

With both chambers having approved S. 195, the bill was enrolled on September 18 and sent to the President for consideration.

Calvin Harris Sets Guinness World Record With 1.6 Million-Person DJ Set

Calvin Harris has officially entered the Guinness World Records books after performing a DJ set for an estimated 1.6 million people in São Paulo, Brazil.

Guinness World Records has certified Harris's February 8, 2026 performance as the largest attendance for a DJ set by a single artist. The certification formally establishes the São Paulo performance as the benchmark for a solo DJ audience.

1.6 Million People in São Paulo

Harris performed from a carnival float during a massive pre-Carnival street celebration in central São Paulo. According to Guinness World Records, approximately 1.6 million people attended the performance along Rua da Consolação, near Avenida Paulista.

Calvin Harris performs during the February 8 street event in São Paulo that Guinness World Records says drew approximately 1.6 million people.

Wearing a Brazilian football jersey with “Calvinho” across the back, Harris played a set built around some of the biggest records of his career, including “One Kiss,” “I Need Your Love,” “This Is What You Came For” and “We Found Love.”

The sheer size of the crowd transformed the performance into something closer to a city-scale event than a conventional concert or festival set. Guinness said the gathering became one massive street party, while the turnout ultimately forced the closure of Rua da Consolação.

Guinness Makes the Record Official

The important development now is the certification. The February performance itself was widely reported when it happened, but Guinness has formally recognized Harris as the record holder for the largest attendance for a DJ set by a single artist.

DJ Mag reported the certification on September 21, while EDM.com also highlighted the newly confirmed record.

Harris reacted to the achievement on social media by describing the São Paulo performance as a “truly insane day” and celebrating the scale of the Brazilian crowd.

A Different Kind of Electronic Music Benchmark

For electronic music, the record offers an unusually concrete measure of scale: 1.6 million people physically assembled for a single DJ performance..

Recent milestones have also highlighted the growing commercial scale of electronic music, from record-setting touring to city-scale public performances like Harris’s São Paulo set.

Streaming totals, social-media audiences and digital consumption have become increasingly important measures of an artist's reach, but a crowd of 1.6 million demonstrates another dimension of scale entirely. Harris's São Paulo performance shows how electronic music can move beyond traditional clubs, arenas and festivals and become a mass public event occupying the center of a major city.

The distinction is also specific. Guinness is not simply labeling the event the largest electronic music gathering overall; the recognized category is the largest attendance for a DJ set by a single artist. That makes the 1.6 million figure a clearly defined benchmark for individual DJ performances.

Calvin Harris Adds Another Record

The São Paulo certification adds another record to a career that has already extended far beyond the traditional electronic music circuit. Harris has moved between dance music, pop, major festivals and stadium-scale performances while maintaining his position as one of electronic music's most commercially successful artists.

With Guinness now formally recognizing the São Paulo crowd, the February 8 performance has a definitive place in electronic music history: 1.6 million people, one city and one DJ set.

Countdown NYE 2026 Lineup Officially Announced by Insomniac

September 20, 2026 by PrimeEV
EDM, News

Update — September 23, 2026: Insomniac has now officially announced the Countdown NYE 2026 lineup and published the artist roster on the festival's website. PrimeEV originally reported on September 20 that the lineup had surfaced publicly before Insomniac's official lineup page had been updated.

Countdown NYE's 2026 lineup is now official. Insomniac has published the full artist roster for its two-day New Year's Eve festival at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, confirming a lineup led by Alesso, DJ Snake, Marshmello, Subtronics, Seven Lions, Gordo, Tchami, James Hype, Oliver Heldens and dozens more.

The formal announcement follows an unusual rollout. A Countdown lineup poster surfaced publicly days before the festival's official website displayed the 2026 roster. PrimeEV reported the poster on September 20 while Insomniac's public Countdown lineup page was still showing older material.

Insomniac has now replaced that gap with an official Countdown NYE 2026 lineup page, confirming the artists previously shown on the poster.

Countdown returns to the NOS Events Center for two days on December 31, 2026 and January 1, 2027. Insomniac has announced five covered stages, more than 75 artists, carnival rides, the Galaxy Mall and onsite afterparties for the New Year's Eve event.

House and Bass Share the Countdown NYE 2026 Lineup

Countdown continues to cast a wider musical net than many of Insomniac's genre-specific festivals. Alesso, Seven Lions and Oliver Heldens are among the lineup's established festival names, while Subtronics, NGHTMRE, Space Laces and LYNY B2B PEEKABOO give the event a substantial bass presence.

House music also has a notable showing. Gordo, James Hype and Tchami appear alongside Archie Hamilton, Walker & Royce, Wax Motif, Joshwa, Ranger Trucco and Matroda, providing a club-focused counterweight to the larger crossover and bass bookings.

Rinzen and DØMINA add more techno-oriented programming, while TOKiMONSTA, Taiki Nulight, BUNT. and KLOUD further broaden the musical range of the festival.

Countdown Returns to San Bernardino

The 2026 edition marks Countdown's return to the NOS Events Center after Countdown 2025 took place in Los Angeles. The San Bernardino edition returns as a two-day festival with the alien-themed production and multiple stages that have defined the event.

The official Countdown NYE website lists the festival for December 31, 2026 and January 1, 2027 at the NOS Events Center.

Insomniac Makes the Lineup Official

Insomniac's September rollout now closes the gap between the lineup poster that surfaced publicly and the festival's official online presentation. The artists shown on the earlier poster are now listed directly on Countdown's website.

The Countdown homepage says passes return on sale Thursday at 12 p.m. PT. The festival's lineup page is also promoting an SMS presale beginning at 11 a.m. PT.

Artist-by-day assignments, set times and additional event information are expected closer to New Year's Eve.

Time Warp Los Angeles Debuts in 2026 With Richie Hawtin, Ben Klock, Loco Dice & More

One of electronic music's longest-running institutions is finally heading west. Time Warp will make its Los Angeles debut on November 27 and 28, 2026, bringing the German-born house and techno event to ACE*Mission for a two-day, three-floor edition over Thanksgiving weekend.

The debut expands Time Warp's growing U.S. presence, joining its established New York edition and other American appearances while bringing the standalone festival concept to Southern California for the first time.

Time Warp Brings Its Full Concept to Los Angeles

Founded in Mannheim, Germany, in 1994, Time Warp has spent more than three decades building a reputation around a focused approach to house and techno. Its international editions have expanded the concept well beyond Germany, but the Los Angeles event represents the first time the Time Warp name will anchor a full edition in Southern California.

Rather than adapting the event into a conventional Southern California festival format, the Los Angeles edition is being positioned around the fundamentals that have defined Time Warp internationally: warehouse spaces, powerful sound systems, immersive production and programming centered on underground electronic music.

That approach is particularly notable in Los Angeles, where warehouse events have long played an important role in the city's techno and house culture. ACE*Mission gives Time Warp an industrial setting suited to that identity, with the event taking over multiple warehouse spaces across the property.

A Lineup That Moves Between House, Techno and the Underground

Time Warp's inaugural Los Angeles lineup is broad without abandoning the event's club-focused identity. Established figures including Richie Hawtin, Ben Klock, Loco Dice and The Martinez Brothers sit alongside a newer generation of artists working across contemporary techno, house and faster club music.

Several of the event's most interesting bookings come in the form of back-to-back sets. D.Dan b2b Freddy K brings together two distinctly different approaches to driving techno, while Dennis Ferrer b2b Skream connects house history with one of electronic music's most versatile selectors.

Other collaborative sets include Blawan b2b Elli Acula, Gerd Janson b2b Julya Karma, Quest b2b Ryan Elliott, SPFDJ b2b TOCCORORO and Los Angeles-based Heidi Lawden b2b Masha Mar.

House Is Just as Important as Techno

Despite Time Warp's deep association with techno, the Los Angeles lineup is not built as a single-genre bill. House occupies a substantial part of the programming through artists including Loco Dice, The Martinez Brothers, East End Dubs, Ahmed Spins, Luuk van Dijk, Desiree and the Dennis Ferrer pairing with Skream.

That balance reflects a wider definition of underground dance music than many contemporary techno festivals. Rather than organizing the event around one narrowly defined sound, Time Warp is programming different strains of house and techno across the weekend while maintaining a distinctly dance-floor-oriented identity.

Los Angeles Artists Are Part of the Debut

The lineup also gives the first Los Angeles edition a meaningful local presence. LA-based artists and selectors appear throughout the bill rather than being separated into a token opening slot.

Heidi Lawden and Masha Mar will perform together, while California-connected artists including Colored Craig and ONYVAA further connect the international lineup with the region's electronic music history..

Why the Los Angeles Debut Matters

Los Angeles already has one of the most crowded electronic music calendars in North America. That makes the arrival of another international festival name less significant by itself than the particular format Time Warp is bringing with it.

Time Warp has traditionally emphasized the relationship between the artist, sound system, architecture and production. Bringing that approach into warehouse spaces at ACE*Mission gives the Los Angeles edition a format distinct from a conventional outdoor festival or nightclub event.

The lineup reinforces that distinction. Richie Hawtin and Ben Klock connect the event directly to techno's established international circuit, while artists such as Chlär, D.Dan, Funk Tribu, ØTTA, Novah and SPFDJ represent different directions in the genre's current evolution. On the house side, Loco Dice, The Martinez Brothers, East End Dubs and Dennis Ferrer provide another substantial axis for the weekend.

Taken together, it gives Time Warp Los Angeles something increasingly rare on large electronic music bills: stylistic range without losing a coherent musical identity.

Time Warp Los Angeles Tickets

Time Warp Los Angeles takes place Friday, November 27 and Saturday, November 28, 2026 at ACE*Mission in Los Angeles. The event runs from 2:00 PM until 2:00 AM on both days and is restricted to guests age 21 and over.

Tickets are currently available through the official Time Warp Los Angeles ticket page . Additional event information and updates are available from the official Time Warp Los Angeles website .

RÜFÜS DU SOL Makes Touring History With $158M World Tour

RÜFÜS DU SOL has set a new benchmark for electronic music touring, with the group's Inhale/Exhale World Tour grossing more than $158 million and selling 1.7 million tickets across 115 shows worldwide.

According to Billboard Boxscore figures reported by DJ Mag, the tour became the first dance-music tour to surpass $100 million in revenue and the first to sell more than one million tickets.

The milestone places the Australian trio among a select group of electronic artists capable of sustaining arena and stadium-scale demand across multiple international markets, while illustrating how far electronic music has expanded beyond its traditional club and festival foundations.

A Global Tour on Stadium Scale

The Inhale/Exhale World Tour ultimately encompassed 115 performances worldwide. The band's tour summary documented a run spanning 20 countries, with performances across stadiums, arenas and major international festivals.

North America represented the tour's largest commercial leg. Boxscore figures reported by DJ Mag show that 31 North American dates generated nearly $72 million while selling approximately 693,000 tickets.

The scale of the production was matched by a rotating group of special guests. Live Nation's tour announcement included Glass Beams, Neil Frances, Overmono, Sofia Kourtesis and SG Lewis among the supporting artists appearing across various dates.

A Landmark Night at the Rose Bowl

One of the tour's defining moments came in Southern California, where RÜFÜS DU SOL headlined the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena in August 2025. The performance drew roughly 60,000 fans and represented the group's largest headline show at the time.

Ahead of the performance, the Los Angeles Times described the Rose Bowl date as the peak of the band's Los Angeles journey, with close to 60,000 fans expected for what was then its biggest headline performance.

For electronic music, the significance extends beyond a single stadium show. Large-scale festival audiences have long been part of the genre, but selling tens of thousands of tickets to a standalone headline performance demonstrates a different level of artist-driven demand.

From Clubs to Stadiums

The world tour supported RÜFÜS DU SOL's fifth studio album, Inhale / Exhale. The album was subsequently nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Album at the 68th Grammy Awards, according to the Recording Academy.

The tour's $158 million gross is particularly notable because sustained arena and stadium touring requires more than festival visibility. It depends on an artist's ability to generate substantial ticket demand independently across multiple cities, countries and venue sizes over an extended period.

For RÜFÜS DU SOL, that demand translated into 1.7 million tickets across 115 performances and a new commercial high-water mark for electronic touring.

A New Benchmark for Electronic Touring

Electronic music has long thrived in clubs, warehouses and festivals. The success of the Inhale/Exhale World Tour demonstrates that a select group of electronic acts can now operate successfully within the same arena and stadium touring infrastructure traditionally associated with major rock and pop artists.

With more than $158 million in revenue, 1.7 million tickets sold and 115 shows worldwide, RÜFÜS DU SOL has established a new benchmark for the commercial scale of a headline electronic music tour.

The question now is not whether electronic artists can reach stadium scale, but how many will be able to sustain it.
