Metalstep Bass Lord Excision
Metalstep Bass Lord Excision
Metalstep Bass Lord Excision, also known as X, was born Jeff Abel on April 29, 1986, in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. Kelowna means “Grizzly Bear” in Okanagan. This area is just over four hundred miles from British Columbia’s Rocky Mountains, which is known for its dinosaur fossils. Interesting to note, Abel wanted to be a paleontologist when he was younger. One explanation may lie in human geography, the study of human interaction with the earth across locations.
Excision summed up his core philosophy behind his music in a straightforward sentence,
Bass is meant to be felt, that’s why I have it so loud.
Pure Sensory Overload
An Excision affair is like no other; his productions utilize immense sound systems and massive visuals. He explains the evolution of his stages in an interview with Insomniac. One should expect the sound to be deafening. He recommends earplugs, which he sells at cost. Not only is he immensely talented, he genuinely cares about his fans. The raining bass impales your chest, and you lose your breath.
Excision designs and oversees the construction of the stage productions. The reason for this is that Excision feels a responsibility to his fans and wants everyone to get what they expect.
The Dubstep Record Labels
Excision founded Rottun Recordings in 2005. Its first release was ‘The Launch’ EP Part 1. In the last fourteen years, Rottun has nearly one hundred fifty releases to its credit. Rottun specializes in dubstep and monster bass.
In 2012 Excision, Downlink, and KJ Sawka formed the live dubstep supergroup, Destroid. They also created their independent dubstep label, Destroid Music. Not only is the bass apocalyptic and the visuals stunning, but they also perform it wearing futuristic robot suits.
Excision’s latest label is Excision Music. The first release on this imprint is a dubstep collaboration between he and Illenium titled, Gold (Stupid Love) featuring Shallow. A Lost Lands 2018 compilation followed. Finally, Excision released the album, Apex. The Apex Tour 2019 is in full force, and you can see the dates below.
The Festivals
For ten years, Excision graced the decks of the Shambhala Music Festival. His Shambhala mixes are folklore in the world of dubstep. His final Shambhala appearance in 2017 was a commencement of sorts. One chapter ended and another began. The new beginning’s title is ‘Lost Lands Music Festival.’
Not only does Lost Lands provide some of the best in dubstep and bass, but they also have DINOSAURS! Three days in prehistoric Legend Valley, Thornville, Ohio.
Lost Lands 2019 tickets are available.
In 2018, Excision announced the inaugural sister festival to Lost Lands on the west coast. ‘Bass Canyon’ debuted on August 24 – 26 at The Gorge Amphitheater in George, Washington.
