ELECTRONICA ARTIST BT EARLY LIFE & INFLUENCES

Electronica artist BT, born Brian Wayne Transeau on October 4, 1971, in Rockville, Maryland. He is an American multi-instrumentalist, composer, singer, songwriter, producer, technologist, and audio technician. BT is a pioneer of trance music and for

stretching electronic music to its technical breaking point.

BT listened to classical music at four years old and studied classical piano. In four years he was studying at the Washington Conservatory of Music. His exposure to electronic music came from the pop culture of breakdancing music and Vangelis’ soundtrack for the movie Bladerunner in 1982. These early influences led him to artists like Bambaataa, Kraftwerk, New Order, and of course Depeche Mode.

BT was an eclectic musician in high school. He played punk guitar, ska bass, and drums in another band. He studied jazz at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, by the time he was fifteen. At Berklee, he became a multi-instrumentalist, playing piano, keyboards, synths, guitar, bass, sequencers, drums, drum machines, the glockenspiel, as well as modifying instruments.

EARLY CAREER

BT left Berklee in 1989 and moved to Los Angeles with the dream of becoming a successful singer-songwriter. After several months, he realized his true love was electronic music. He returned to Maryland months later and worked with Dubfire and Sharam of Deep Dish, where they started Deep Dish Records.

The next few years saw BT pioneering the trance sound he would become famous for. His tracks ‘Relativity’ and ‘A Moment of Truth’ became hits in the United Kingdom, but not the United States. He was unaware of how popular he was overseas. BT became fully aware though when Sasha bought him a plane ticket so he could see for himself. In front of thousands of clubbers, Sasha dropped a BT track, and the dancefloor erupted. BT was now aware.

BT met Paul Oakenfold and subsequently signed with Perfecto Records. His first album, Ima, released on Perfecto in 1995 consisted of progressive house music. The first release, ‘Nocturnal Transmission’ was featured in the film, ‘The Fast and The Furious’ in 2001.

With the success of Ima, BT collaborated with Tori Amos on ‘Blue Skies’ which reached number one on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs Chart in January 1997. This led to collaborations with and productions for Sting, Madonna, Seal, Sarah McGlachin, NSYNC, Britney Spears, Diana Ross, and Mike Oldfield.

BT released his second album, Electric Sky Church Music in 1997, was darker than Ima and more involved musically. The first release, ‘Flaming June’ was a trance collaboration with Paul van Dyk. This initial collaboration led to subsequent collaborations. They remixed BT’s ‘Remember’ and reached it also became number one on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart.

BT brought his A Song Across Wires tour of 2013 to Off The Hookah, Fort Lauderdale. A Song Across Wires was his ninth studio album released on August 16, 2013.

Through 2016, BT has released ten albums and worked with numerous stars in electronic music, as well as rock, pop, and hip-hop.

FILM SCORING

In 1999, BT scored the soundtrack to Go, which was a movie about dance music culture. He moved to Los Angeles and worked on the soundtracks to The Fast and The Furious and Under Suspicion.

THE TECHNOLOGIST: STUTTER EDIT

BT pioneered the sound engineering technique of the stutter edit. In layman’s terms,

“Stutter’ edits, commonly used in a variety of pop music, including dance music and hip-hop, slice and dice clips into pieces and then reassemble them in a different order.”

These sounds repeat rhythmically. BT formed a software company, Sonik Architects, and developed the plugins Stutter Edit, BreakTweaker, and Sonifi.

Early Beginnings

Talented Miami DJ Producer Joseph Areas, like many of his electronic music DJ Producer brethren, was immersed in music at a young age. By the time he was 15, he had his first turntables and was spinning open format at local house parties. He had an eclectic musical background that included Latin and Caribbean tracks to the urban sounds of Miami. As a result, his sets were inclusive of these various sounds, rhythms, and instruments.

Joseph was more and more exposed to electronic dance music which became his passion. This growing desire led him to the realization that he wanted not only to play the music but live the lifestyle. After his eureka moment, Joseph decided to make his love of DJ/production of electronic dance music an integral part of his life, leaving everything else in the backseat.

The Producer & Visionary

As Joseph honed his electronic dance music DJ skills at house parties and small venues, he transitioned to remixing tracks from some of his EDM influencers. They include Andy Moor, Lange & Fenja – ‘Top of the World,’ Kyau & Albert – ‘Do You Still Know,’ and tyDi – ‘The Moment It Breaks.’ He has collaborated with vocal artists Betsie Larkin, Jaren, and Tania Zygar.

As a producer, Joseph’s first studio wares were quickly snapped up by the likes of Armada Music and Andy Moor’s AVA Recordings. Joseph’s artistic side, combined with cutting-edge technology and production methods, evolved exponentially. His sound is a unique combination of euphoric melody and twinned with floor-kick energy. His style pushes listeners to the redline of emotion and exhilaration. Some of his original work include ‘Parvenu,’ ‘For An Instant,’ ‘Beluga,’ and most recently released on a State of Trance, ‘Void of Self.’ His tracks continue to receive significant and sustained support from the scene’s upper echelon.

While tech house was trendy in Miami leading up to 2010, Joseph’s love of trance led him to the conclusion that Miami needed a trance night. He became co-founder with his Los Angeles partners of Element Entertainment, now Prime Entertainment Ventures. They established Night Shift on the Eden Terrace at Nocturnal Nightclub, now Heart Nightclub. Night Shift led to subsequent nights at Grand Central and Pure Ultra Lounge, official WMC events, to Off The Hookah and Fate Nightclub in Fort Lauderdale. He provided support for Kyau & Albert, Stoneface & Terminal, Andy Moor, Lange, and Myon & Shane 54, just to name a few. He’s graced the decks at Space and Imperia in Miami.

The Recording Label, Arisa Audio

Joseph also went on to establish his recording label, Arisa Audio with Faruk Sabanci. DJ Magazine described Arisa Audio as,

one of the most promising new trance labels around

Arisa Audio led to other labels Metanoia Music, Arisa Lifting, Intricate Music and Harmonic Breeze. After nearly a decade and one hundred forty releases, Joseph’s on-going mission for Arisa Audio is to deliver the highest quality, most forward-looking electronic music possible to dance floors and music lovers alike.

Joseph’s love of the musical journey leads him to one ultimate goal: to provide beautiful electronic dance music to the universe. Enjoy his latest release, ‘Void of Self’ released on A State of Trance and played by Armin van Buuren on ASOT 839.

Trance and Progressive DJProducer Andy Moor

Trance and progressive DJProducer Andy Moor is one of the most revered names in EDM. He is a pioneer in the progressive trance scene, introducing vocal chops and syncopated bass lines. Two production techniques now commonly used by other trance music DJ/Producers.

He crafted his signature sound aptly described as,

finely tuned, beautiful melodic soundscapes floating above prominent, clever basslines.

His style of progressive trance is easily recognizable though not simple. He has remained at the forefront of an ever-changing music scene and has remained loyal to his brand of progressive trance and to the fans who love his music. While many others succumb to the whims of a fickle public, Andy Moor has shown high integrity and loyalty to trance and trance music fans.

The Musical Prodigy

We can describe Andy Moor as a musical prodigy and an actual musician. He played his first perfect piano piece when he was five years old. By the time he reached the ripe old age of ten, he had learned six more instruments. Three years later, he spun his first record. By nineteen he signed his first label release, and by twenty-one, he was spinning to massive crowds of adoring fans.

Andy Moor combined his genetic musical ability, innate drive, integrity, and loyalty and became one of the biggest names in progressive trance both as a DJ and a producer. This perfect combination is why he will always be an icon in EDM.

The Productions

Andy Moor’s productions catalog spans back to 1999, with ‘Explorer’ with the UK trance act, Tilt. He worked with Adam White as half of the duo, “Whiteroom” earning praise from Armin van Buuren and Above & Beyond as having the best trance production of 2004. His collaboration with Above & Beyond, “Air For Live,” was named ‘Tune of the Year’ by listeners of Armin van Buuren’s ‘A State of Trance’ radio show as well as ‘Best Underground Dance Track’ at Miami Winter Music Conference and ‘Best Trance Track’ in 2006.

Andy’s co-production work as Leama & Moor, a UK melodic progressive house duo on remixes includes Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne, Nelly Furtado, Orbital, Starkid, Brian Eno, Paul Oakenfold, and Tiesto. Their cross-genre sound made them the top-rated remix team of the time.

Andy’s collaboration with Somna and singer Amy Kirkpatrick in 2015, “One Thing About You,” marked the 100th release on Andy’s label, AVA Recordings. The track topped the Beatport Trance Chart and dominated dance floors globally.

Another 2015 success was Andy’s “All Gone,” released on Armin’s, ‘Who’s Afraid of 138!’ label. This collaborative effort included the uplifting trance master RAM and the sultry vocals of Christina Novelli.

“Zero Point One,” the highly acclaimed debut solo album by Andy Moor released in 2012, included artists Meredith Call Carrie Skipper, Sue McLaren, producers Orkidea and Ashley Wallbridge. A genre crossing symphonic journey of mysterious ambient, vocal melodies, melodic trance to break beats and the thick bass of progressive.

In September 2014 Andy Moor reunited with vocalist Betsie Larkin for yet another crowd-pleasing collaboration titled ‘Not Afraid’ following the massive success of their tune, “Love Again.” Andy found the perfect combination of uplifting vocals, euphoric melodies, and thick progressive bass lines.

June 23, 2015, marked the milestone Episode 150 with three hours of beautiful trance.

Andy founded AVA Recordings in early 2006 under the parent label Armada. The members include Andy Moor, Somna, Ashley Wallbridge, tyDi, Ben Nicky, David Forbes, Masoud, Jonathan Martin, Sunny Lax, and Joseph Areas.
