Ibiza Clubs Reopen

The High Court Of Justice Of The Balearic Islands (TSJB) approved the opening of the nightlife industry as of October 8, 2021. Restrictions include Covid-19 passports for entry, Periódico De Ibiza reports, a 5 AM closing time, mandatory masks on the dance floor, and a maximum capacity of 75 percent.

Finally, some good news since most venues shuttered in the summer of 2019. Venues announcing openings are Amnesia and DC-10, while Pacha has yet to decide. Amnesia planned its closing party for October 23, which sold out. The lineup includes Adam Beyer, Jamie Jones, Deborah de Luca, as well as many others.

Ibiza clubs reopen

DC-10 planned three parties with Circoloco in October, Mondays, October 10, 18, and 25. The lineups include the likes of Adam Beyer, Amelie Lens, Seth Trexler, and Michael Bibi.

Pacha has yet to announce a closing party, according to its website. Periódico De Ibiza reported that Hï, Ushuaïa, and Privilege ruled out their closing parties. However, last week, José Luis Benítez, head of the Leisure Association Of Ibiza (AOI), said on local TV that it costs a super club up to €100,000 to open. The immense cost and staff shortage make it nearly inconceivable to open on short notice and for such a short time. Dawn Hindle, creative director for ‘Pikes Ibiza’ and ‘Ibiza Rocks’, told Resident Advisor last month,

It’s really hard to find staff. Especially kitchen service, staff waiters, everything. So to actually be able to even find staff to open a venue in October for a month, I think it’s impossible.

Evolution of TikTok

Evolution of TikTok

A billion people are now using TikTok worldwide every month – around three times the global audience Spotify pulls in.

TikTok is not just a dumping ground for sophomoric videos. Instead, it’s expanding, which is good news for the music industry. A case in point is PinPantheress, who is a DIY pop artist from Bath, United Kingdom. She did so well; she signed with Electra Music Group and Parlophone, both within Warner Music Group. She uses TikTok to get her music out to her fans and also A&R her ideas.

I post a snippet of [a track], and if people like it I’ll go and record a full version, she recently told the BBC, adding: The algorithm is crazy on TikTok, you can post a video and you can have zero followers, and it can do well.

Of course, record labels are also paying attention. In 2020, approximately  70 acts signed contracts after being found on TikTok.

The practice of exclusive artist releases on individual streaming platforms, thought dead, is alive and well, thanks to Dr. TikTok. Before the official release dates, David Guetta, Coldplay, and BTS successfully used TikTok to premiere new music.

Next on the horizon is the live-stream concert on TikTok. K-Pop stars BTS, Twice, and Super Junior held a live-stream show in Korea on the platform.

Users had to register membership with ‘Lotte Duty Free,’ the headline sponsor. After registering, they received an entry code. Nearly 600,000 viewers tuned in at $20 to $30.

Data suggests TikTok subscribers’ per user watch time is surpassing that of Youtube among some demographics.

TikTok is beta testing a direct upload service with the requisite tools to further its venture into the music world. The program is called SoundOn, and it’s for the independent artists who want to grow on the platform.

For the Global Head of Music at TikTok, Ole Obermann, the mission is to bring artists and their fanbases together in a more profound connection that other platforms can’t provide. Obermann told Music Business World,

TikTok is a platform that is about music engagement, not consumption. It’s a new form of fandom. We’re now at the point where a trending song on TikTok will achieve billions of views and many millions of creations in a single month.

Paul van Dyk ALDA Arbitration

Paul van Dyk ALDA arbitration ends. Paul receives $12,588,643.45 for medical expenses and lost profits. The details of the award include

$2,000,000 for future medical expenses
$1,200,000 for lost profits for the years 2016 and 2017
$2,475,000 for losses in the next ten years
$5,500,000 for undisclosed damages

The Accident

The incident occurred at during Paul van Dyk’s set at ‘State of Trance’ 750 in February 2016 in Utrecht, Netherlands. During his performance, Paul stepped on to the table area, which is typical for DJs. As he walked, something collapsed, and he fell to the ground. View the incident below.

Paul suffered brain and spinal injuries. During the subsequent three months, Paul had surgery and physical therapy. Paul is healthy and back to normal, but with a changed perspective.

I was in a coma, and when I woke up, I wasn’t able to do anything. So whatever I do now is to me, a miracle, a gift. Every sound on from then on is 1,000 percent how I want it to be. I don’t want to waste my talent, or call it whatever, on somebody else’s idea of how my music should be. I am closer to myself and my music, than I have ever been, simply because there is a certain element of myself that sees life very differently.

The Arbitration

The event organizer was ALDA Events B.V. They were responsible for all aspects of the stage, including its safety. During arbitration, ALDA admitted the table area where Paul from was not designed to be stood on. Furthermore, ALDA did not advise Paul of this fact verbally or in writing. The Arbitration Hearing Officer decided ALDA was at fault because the stage was unsafe and gave no notice or warning to Paul or his agents.

Ibiza Trance 2018

Ibiza Trance 2018 at Privilege’s Vista Club. The latest trance music night in Ibiza is Shine. It runs on Monday nights from July 9 to September 17. Since Cream announced the end of its trance nights, this is excellent news for trance fanatics.

Shine on Monday is the brainchild of Paul van Dyk’s Vandit and former Cream promoter, Nick Ferguson. Even though trance has waned in recent years, there is still a following on the White Isle. Nick said of trance,

Trance has deep roots on the island of Ibiza.

Trance has had its spiritual home in Ibiza since the 1990s. Shine plans to bring back what they call the human spirit, an all-encompassing inclusive experience for not just the club goers, but for the artists, talent, and staff.

Paul van Dyk described the concept behind Shine.

what SHINE offers, is a world of opportunities – a hub to an international community.

Shine will provide trance music lovers with an altered state of mind experience. The visual and auditory production design is full of magic and positive energy.

Vista is the club within the world’s super club that is Privilege. For over five years, Privilege earned a reputation for its mind-blowing atmosphere and sheer size. Dance within the twenty-five-meter-high glass pyramid ceiling under the stars and at dawn, under the sun. Sunrise sets are life-altering with the music blending with the panorama view across La Isla Blanca that stretches to Dalt Vila. This clubbing experience is a rite of passage for electronic music fans.

Strakton Miami 2018

UK-based record label Strakton Records proudly released their mind-blowing compilation, ‘Strakton Miami 2018.‘ The EP features music from Kapes, Pais, Joseph, Guccii, Fabio Angeli, Giovanni Angelucci and Ameryka, Virox, and AloR.

Giovanni Angelucci kicks things off with his soothing house anthem, ‘You & I‘. A light-hearted marimba, wooden percussion, vocal chops in the second drop and warm bass all combine to give this track the easy-listening summer vibe that fans will instantly fall in love with.

Ameryka’s track ‘Ocean Drive‘ keeps the summer vibe alive. It’s a smooth transition from ‘You & I’ and takes things up a notch with his funky, disco-inspired house anthem. Driven by a groovy bass guitar, a subtle strat guitar in the background, and subtle male vocal chops, evident in the breaks.

Fabio Angeli takes us deeper with ‘Funky Sound.’ A darker atmosphere with smooth male vocals and a warm saturated bass. Velvety claps and hats fill the air with swing, while a gorgeous piano slowly high-pass filters throughout the track.

Guccii appears with his bass massive tech house tune, ‘Dirty‘. Like Valentino Khan, ‘Dirty’ has heavy kicks, deep bass, and pitched-down vocals. The elements of this track combined, give it a deep vibe. However similar to Khan, ‘Dirty’ has its own identity. The detuned piano in the final drop has a distinct effect.

Joseph brings a deep dark future house energy in his hard-hitting release, ‘Fuse In The Club.’ Elements of fluctuating pluck synths, scintillating bass, and heavy growls, ensures this track will be a club hit.

Pais combines trap and future bass with ‘On That.’ Trap-inspired breaks create a hard-hitting influence on this future house-inspired arrival. Dirty electro synths and resounding bass flood the airwaves.

Kapes delivers his uptempo ‘Androids‘. With the break beginning with a low-pass filter on the master, it eventually eases up before reaching the enticing climax, where significant, coruscating lead synths dominate the drop.

Virox changes things up. He brings a dark house sensation with South American elements in the aptly titled track, ‘Flamingo‘. Grim, brooding horns, synths, and bass flood the track’s breaks. The flamenco guitar and authentic Latin-percussion elements follow, arousing listeners with a unique sound and experience.

Closing out the EP is AloR, who goes against the grain with his downtempo, ‘The Wakandian‘. Driven by pitched-down African vocals, resonating sub-bass, horns and subtle screech synths, the first drop his heavily trap inspired. However, he changes things up in the second drop when he implements a 4/4 kick pattern, which is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.
