German Scottish Trance Producer Andy Duguid

Andy Duguid, Trance

German Scottish Trance Producer Andy Duguid

German Scottish Trance Producer Andy Duguid was born on November 16, 1982, in Gutersloh, Germany. His hometown is New Pitsligo, a small village in Aberdeen, Scotland. His aliases include Reeves, Corsie, and Emilio Fernandez.

Childhood Musician To Stardom

I am a child of the 80’s, I was born in Gutersloh, Germany, although my parents relocated to England very soon after. I remember being drawn and influenced by music from a very early age, not least Jean Michel Jarre, so when my parents bought me a keyboard, the circle became complete. I remember spending hours practicing, first teaching myself the musical basics and then developing an obsession and desire to create weird and wonderful sounds. Nothing in the house was safe; everyday objects were all fair game; I even made a Xylophone out of a water bottle!

Young Andy started to play keyboards and piano when he was ten years old. By the time he was fourteen, he had produced music. In the following ten years of learning and experimenting, Andy released his first track, ‘Hypocrisy’ in 2006 on Tiesto’s Black Hole Recordings. ‘Hypocrisy’ reached number 5 on the Dutch Dance Charts and was popular with trance titans Armin van Buuren and Paul van Dyk. His next single, ‘Don’t Belong,’ was also very well received and featured on ‘In Search of Sunrise 6: Ibiza.’ Andy went on to become a frequent remixer for some of the most prolific artists in trance and progressive such as Tiësto, Johan Gielen, Phynn, Filo & Peri, Richard Durand and Mr. Sam.

In October 2007 Black Hole Recordings requested an album from Andy. Andy enlisted fellow Black Hole Recordings artists Julie Thompson, Esmaye, Mr. Sam, and Solarstone, as well as his longtime friend vocalist Leah. The resulting album ‘Believe’ released in 2008 to critical acclaim. The first release ‘Wasted’ featuring the vocals of Leah became a signature sound.

Personal Tragedies Came in 3s

Andy’s father passed away prematurely in 2005. This personal suffering, however, had an unexpected effect;

something snapped inside me. I knew I had to seize the – albeit sad – opportunity and go for it, so I quit the nine-to-five and focused on music full time.

Ninety days after his father’s passing is when Andy signed with Dutch giant Tiesto’s Black Hole Recordings. The next twelve months saw Andy’s career skyrocket.

The dream was interrupted by a nightmare when Andy learned of his brother’s diagnosis of terminal cancer. Andy confirmed he wrote the last track ‘White Sands’ with his brother. He told VH1 India

This track means so much. You can lose pictures or videos of your loved ones but this is something that will be around forever, and it makes me very proud of my brother.

Andy’s brother passed away two days after the release of his first album, ‘Believe.’

But so proud he managed to live long enough to see the release of my first album, even if it was by two days.

Olivia Downie

Andy’s friends, Steven and Lauren Downie had a daughter, Olivia. Olivia received a diagnosis of Neuroblastoma was she was just four years old. For the next three years, Olivia suffered unimaginable agony. Her parents traveled with her to Mexico’s Hope 4 Cancer Institute for treatment but ended up stranded. After news reached Scotland, the public raised 150,000 pounds for air ambulance transport back to Scotland. Olivia returned to Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital where she passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 29, 2012. She was 7 years old.

Olivia was the inspiration for ‘7Even,’ a collaboration between Andy and Jaren. ‘7Even’ was released on October 14, 2013, on Andy’s second album, ‘On The Edge.’ He announced all of his royalties from the track were to be donated to cancer research in Olivia’s name.

The DJ

Known as one of the unique electronic artists of his time, Andy Duguid is a name recognized globally. His sound is his brand, and his brand is why he is unique. He is different; he is the master of his trade, he is Andy Duguid.

Alongside his productions, his DJing has taken him to every corner of the world, through Europe, Africa, and Asia and onwards to the United States. He graced the decks in cities from Los Angeles to Miami, where he joined Andy Moor for his WMC 2010 event, Andy Moor and Friends.

AUSSIE ELECTRONICA DJ PRODUCER TYDI

Aussie Electronica DJ Producer tyDi

Trance, tyDi

Aussie Electronica DJ Producer tyDi

Aussie electronica DJ Producer tyDi is one of the leading artists in electronic dance music since 2002. Born Tyson Illingworth in Mooloolaba, Australia, on May 31, 1987, he goes by the aliases ‘Wish I Was’ and ‘Tyson Diorr.’ Unlike many of his contemporaries, he studied music late in life, age 14 to be exact. He fell in love with trance music and was also interested in music theory. So much so, he wrote music during his school lunch breaks. The earliest inspiration for his music was a relationship he had in school.

He competed in every DJ competition he could find while keeping them from his parents. They influenced him to be a drummer and bought him a drum set. He was so appreciative of the drums he traded them for turntables. Teenagers. As if DJ’ing isn’t hard enough, he used his older sisters to gain access to clubs because he was too young to enter at the time. The risk was worth the reward as Tyson won his first career DJ competition at age 16 under his school nickname ‘tydi.’ The spelling of ‘tyDi’ resulted from a typographic error on a promotional flyer for the Brisbane DJ Wars competition that he won.

A little-known record label, Armin van Buuren’s ‘Armada’ signed young tyDi at age 17. After high school, he applied to study at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. The Conservatorium accepted him as one of 3000 applicants for the potential 30 seats in the program. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music Technology.

Touring and DJ Awards

Post graduation, tyDi toured Australia. In 2006, he entered the Technics InTheMix Australian Top 50 DJs, reaching number 12. After gaining more experience at music festivals in 2007, he reached number 4 in the Top 50 DJ charts. In 2008 and 2009, he became Australia’s youngest number 1 DJ and the first non-New South Wales winner of the award. In 2010 he won ‘Best Break-Through DJ’ at the International Dance Music Awards (IDMA) in Miami. Tiesto presented him the award. Between 2008 and 2012 tyDi was included in the annual DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll. He reached number 48 in 2011.

In 2015, the Conservatorium awarded him the Griffith University Young Outstanding Alumnus of the Year for his contributions to the music industry.

Early Discography

tyDi released tracks on Andy Moor’s label, AVA Recordings between 2008 and 2012. He joined Andy for two Miami Music Week events, Andy Moor & Friends in 2010 and AVA Takeover in 2012.

In 2009, his first album, ‘Look Closer,’ reached number 2 on the Australian Dance charts. His second album ‘Shooting Stars’ released in 2011, reached number 1 on the Australian, Canadian, Finnish and UK iTunes Dance charts and number 4 in the USA.

Through his extensive discography, which includes five full-length albums, countless singles and remixes, and numerous EPs across diverse genres, he’s topped global charts, he’s toured the world, and he’s made his indelible mark on the music world. Now, tyDi reinvents his sound once again via Collide, his forthcoming artist album set for self-release early 2018 via Global Soundsystem Records.

Collide

Four years in the making, Collide unveils tyDi’s latest artistic evolution. It’s a hefty undertaking reflective of tyDi’s developed skills as a songwriter and producer and traversing many styles and sounds.

On Collide, tyDi bridges the worlds of electronic and orchestral music as he presents an entirely new sound in uncharted territories. Collectively, the album threads a grand sonic narrative built on precise composition, progressive musicality, intelligent sound design, layered songwriting and grandiose orchestral scoring. Through its 12 original tracks, Collide creates an unprecedented musical journey that transports listeners off the dance floor and into the concert halls.

The first official album single ‘Closing In’ delivers dreamy synths that float over soft piano melodies and dance atop a beautiful brass section with a bed of majestic strings. The track also features the delicate yet powerful vocals of guest singer Dia Frampton. Dia was the runner-up in the inaugural season of The Voice. The Voice is NBC’s TV singing competition. In 2014, Dia and tyDi also collaborated on his 2014 single ‘Stay.’

The single ‘Gold Blooded’ charges open with an energetic introduction of violins and live brass instruments before diving into a melodic halftime trap chorus featuring empowering vocals from artist Dyson, while ‘Fallen Angel’ forges an intense and massive ride through dubstep-tinged force and modern bass music.

Longtime devotees find a special surprise in ‘Did You Know?’ where tyDi revisits his trance roots with an orchestral twist: Chunky synthesizers and futuristic sequencers build a digital playground as lush strings, and horns paint a cinematic backdrop while ‘London Rouge’ angelically coos of love and longing. Elsewhere, tyDi offers up an intimate, introspective look on ‘You Don’t Love Me,’ a personal reflection on love lost encapsulated by a vulnerable yet uplifting vocal performance from Tori Roper, who perfectly captured the powerful emotion driving the song atop a lulling electro house beat.

tyDi explained,

I wanted to make something larger than life, I needed to impress myself by making an album that’s so detailed, so thorough, so musically complex that you couldn’t copy it. This album is so uniquely me; it cannot be duplicated.

Collide is a continuation of sorts of tyDi’s 2014 album Redefined, a significant effort that saw the producer’s first foray into live elements and instrumentation via his use of string quartets, violas, violins, double bass, guitarists, live vocalists and much more.

Collide also sees tyDi implement his conservatory training as well as his academic classical music degree and musical upbringing.

An accomplished musician, tyDi enlisted two times GRAMMY award-winning composer and seasoned veteran Christopher Tin to help bring Collide to the masses. Best known for his composing and scoring work across the concert music, film and video game industries, Tin has won multiple awards and accolades: In 2011, his choral piece ‘Baba Yetu’ from the video game ‘Civilization IV’ became the first piece of video game music to win a Grammy Award, while his album ‘Calling All Dawns’ took home a second Grammy for Best Classical Crossover Album that same year.

tyDi said of his collaboration with Tin,

To make my dream album, I needed someone experienced who was a king in the composing world, this is the type of composition you can only get from an entire orchestra, and I owe so much to Christopher.

For tyDi, it all now comes full circle on Collide, his most ambitious and most challenging project to date.

When you watch a film with an intense score, you’re swept away to a different planet. The atmosphere, emotions, melodies, and instruments captivate you. That feeling doesn’t always enter the dance realm. I wanted to capture that magic and bring it to the electronic world.

Still, all the minute details, all the long hours in the studio and all the sleepless nights that went into the album are evident throughout Collide. And, according to tyDi, this is only the beginning.

I’m at a point in my career where I’m not satisfied doing the same thing. All the ambition, all the drive behind this album comes from the need and internal desire to combine every single thing I’ve ever learned in my musical career and put it into this project, to show everyone what I’m capable of.

ELECTRIC DEPARTMENT RECORDS

In 2004, they founded their label Electric Department Records and brought up tracks like ‘Merkur,’ ‘Sidewinder,’ and ‘Summerscape/Miami.’ Paul van Dyk chose ‘Merkur’ for his exclusive DJ MAG Mix-CD. Their imprint has provided a home for a number of their side projects including Gundamea and Lichtengard as well unleashing a wealth of fresh and talented acts.

COLLABORATIONS

They have a long list of releases and remixes under various aliases, on high profile labels. Some of the most prominent DJs in electronic dance music remix their productions. These names include

  • Paul van Dyk
  • Tiësto
  • Armin van Buuren
  • Ferry Corsten
  • Above & Beyond
  • Markus Schulz
  • Aly & Fila
  • Ronski Speed
  • Gareth Emory
  • Andy Moor
  • Cosmic Gate

As a result, they have secured a career which has been on a consistently upward trajectory.

RELEASES

After four releases on their label, Henry and Matthias signed to one of the world’s leading trance-labels, Euphonic and teamed up with Ronski Speed to create ‘Incognition / Drowning Sunlight.’ ‘Incognition’ received support from the elite and became one of the biggest club hits in 2005.

In 2006 ‘Venus’ followed and was chosen by Armin van Buuren for his, “A State of Trance” CD-Compilation + Vinyl-Sampler. Also in 2006, the ‘Earth EP’ was released, and Giuseppe Ottaviani made a remix of ‘Super Nature.’ Stoneface & Terminal have utilized their remixing skills for Bryan Adams, Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Above & Beyond, Gareth Emery, and 4 Strings.

In June of 2007, Stoneface & Terminal released their first artist album called ‘Wide Range.’ On this album, they showed their multifaceted passion for electronic music in full effect. Three vocal tracks graced the album including the voices of Sylvia Brandse, Denise Rivera (both in cooperation with Raz Nitzan & Adrian Broekhuyse), and Alexander Perls. Adding to the package were special versions of their well-known tracks such as ‘Another Day,’ ‘Super Nature,’ and ‘Drowning Sunlight.’ As the album title suggests, ‘Wide Range’ incorporated a musical style floating between different sounds and styles, from relaxing grooves, vocal-focused hits to energy loaded club tracks. In August, Stoneface & Terminal compiled and mixed Volume 5 of the well-known US Compilation, ‘This is Trance’ on Water Music Records.

In 2014 they released ‘Be Different,’ Stoneface & Terminal’s second artist album. Over a year in the making, the album proved once more that two friends from school could go on to create a musical craft. 2014 also marked the year the pair collaborated with heavyweight Paul van Dyk. Released on Ultra, ‘Follow Me’ caught waves of success and showed the duo’s ability to construct high-quality material with the industry’s elite.

Turning up the heat in 2015, Henry and Matthias unleashed an unstoppable collaboration with Aly & Fila titled ‘Universelab’ as well as their ’10 years Stoneface & Terminal’ celebration with a special album which contained some of their biggest hits and recovered mixes. It also marked the year they reactivated their label Electric Department Records. Their side project, Gundamea which gives an outlet for their deeper shades of dance music, was settled here as well. Showcasing more unique qualities to their sound, Gundamea’s remix of Armin van Buuren and Mr. Probz’s ‘Another You’ has made its rounds across airwaves with a spin by Markus Schulz on his Global DJ Broadcast.

Moving into 2016, Stoneface & Terminal’s continued their impressive studio output, with releases on labels including Perfecto Records, Flashover, FSOE -including Beatport Trance #1 ‘Hypogean’- and many more. With a finely picked selection of shows in 2016 taking them to locations such as The Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic and the UK, the path of success carries on for Stoneface & Terminal.

Emotional Dance Music Duo Kyau and Albert

Emotional dance music duo Kyau and Albert formed their partnership in 1996. Ralph Kyau started his electronic music career in 1990 spinning his tracks in underground techno parties. He released his first album, ‘Modulation Experiments’ in 1993. Ralph founded Harmony Recordings record label in 1994 with DJ Shandy. Their first signed artist was Mirco de Govia. As a result, Ralph met Steven, who was also experimenting with electronic music production.

Through 1995, they realized they both had similar interests in music and went on to perform live as a duo. These live performances naturally led them to form ‘Kyau vs. Albert’ in 1996. They released their first single, ‘Let Me In.’

By March 1997, they combined their studios and formed the record label ‘Euphonic.’ Ronski Speed and Sonorous were their first signed artists.

They continued producing music and performing live which built their foundation in their native Germany. Their work caught the attention of Paul van Dyk who invited them for an interview on his radio show in 2001. The increased exposure led to more of their music charting and to even more performances.

In 2006, they modified their name to ‘Kyau and Albert.’ The name change did not adversely affect them. In 2007, Euphonic celebrated its Tenth Anniversary.

They released the romantic album, ‘Nights Awake’ on February 25, 2013. One fan described the album as

very romantic, optimistic and full of life

Kyau & Albert promoted the album with their Nights Awake Tour, which landed in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on August 2, 2013.
