AUSSIE ELECTRONICA DJ PRODUCER TYDI

Aussie Electronica DJ Producer tyDi

Trance, tyDi

Aussie Electronica DJ Producer tyDi

Aussie electronica DJ Producer tyDi is one of the leading artists in electronic dance music since 2002. Born Tyson Illingworth in Mooloolaba, Australia, on May 31, 1987, he goes by the aliases ‘Wish I Was’ and ‘Tyson Diorr.’ Unlike many of his contemporaries, he studied music late in life, age 14 to be exact. He fell in love with trance music and was also interested in music theory. So much so, he wrote music during his school lunch breaks. The earliest inspiration for his music was a relationship he had in school.

He competed in every DJ competition he could find while keeping them from his parents. They influenced him to be a drummer and bought him a drum set. He was so appreciative of the drums he traded them for turntables. Teenagers. As if DJ’ing isn’t hard enough, he used his older sisters to gain access to clubs because he was too young to enter at the time. The risk was worth the reward as Tyson won his first career DJ competition at age 16 under his school nickname ‘tydi.’ The spelling of ‘tyDi’ resulted from a typographic error on a promotional flyer for the Brisbane DJ Wars competition that he won.

A little-known record label, Armin van Buuren’s ‘Armada’ signed young tyDi at age 17. After high school, he applied to study at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. The Conservatorium accepted him as one of 3000 applicants for the potential 30 seats in the program. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music Technology.

Touring and DJ Awards

Post graduation, tyDi toured Australia. In 2006, he entered the Technics InTheMix Australian Top 50 DJs, reaching number 12. After gaining more experience at music festivals in 2007, he reached number 4 in the Top 50 DJ charts. In 2008 and 2009, he became Australia’s youngest number 1 DJ and the first non-New South Wales winner of the award. In 2010 he won ‘Best Break-Through DJ’ at the International Dance Music Awards (IDMA) in Miami. Tiesto presented him the award. Between 2008 and 2012 tyDi was included in the annual DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll. He reached number 48 in 2011.

In 2015, the Conservatorium awarded him the Griffith University Young Outstanding Alumnus of the Year for his contributions to the music industry.

Early Discography

tyDi released tracks on Andy Moor’s label, AVA Recordings between 2008 and 2012. He joined Andy for two Miami Music Week events, Andy Moor & Friends in 2010 and AVA Takeover in 2012.

In 2009, his first album, ‘Look Closer,’ reached number 2 on the Australian Dance charts. His second album ‘Shooting Stars’ released in 2011, reached number 1 on the Australian, Canadian, Finnish and UK iTunes Dance charts and number 4 in the USA.

Through his extensive discography, which includes five full-length albums, countless singles and remixes, and numerous EPs across diverse genres, he’s topped global charts, he’s toured the world, and he’s made his indelible mark on the music world. Now, tyDi reinvents his sound once again via Collide, his forthcoming artist album set for self-release early 2018 via Global Soundsystem Records.

Collide

Four years in the making, Collide unveils tyDi’s latest artistic evolution. It’s a hefty undertaking reflective of tyDi’s developed skills as a songwriter and producer and traversing many styles and sounds.

On Collide, tyDi bridges the worlds of electronic and orchestral music as he presents an entirely new sound in uncharted territories. Collectively, the album threads a grand sonic narrative built on precise composition, progressive musicality, intelligent sound design, layered songwriting and grandiose orchestral scoring. Through its 12 original tracks, Collide creates an unprecedented musical journey that transports listeners off the dance floor and into the concert halls.

The first official album single ‘Closing In’ delivers dreamy synths that float over soft piano melodies and dance atop a beautiful brass section with a bed of majestic strings. The track also features the delicate yet powerful vocals of guest singer Dia Frampton. Dia was the runner-up in the inaugural season of The Voice. The Voice is NBC’s TV singing competition. In 2014, Dia and tyDi also collaborated on his 2014 single ‘Stay.’

The single ‘Gold Blooded’ charges open with an energetic introduction of violins and live brass instruments before diving into a melodic halftime trap chorus featuring empowering vocals from artist Dyson, while ‘Fallen Angel’ forges an intense and massive ride through dubstep-tinged force and modern bass music.

Longtime devotees find a special surprise in ‘Did You Know?’ where tyDi revisits his trance roots with an orchestral twist: Chunky synthesizers and futuristic sequencers build a digital playground as lush strings, and horns paint a cinematic backdrop while ‘London Rouge’ angelically coos of love and longing. Elsewhere, tyDi offers up an intimate, introspective look on ‘You Don’t Love Me,’ a personal reflection on love lost encapsulated by a vulnerable yet uplifting vocal performance from Tori Roper, who perfectly captured the powerful emotion driving the song atop a lulling electro house beat.

tyDi explained,

I wanted to make something larger than life, I needed to impress myself by making an album that’s so detailed, so thorough, so musically complex that you couldn’t copy it. This album is so uniquely me; it cannot be duplicated.

Collide is a continuation of sorts of tyDi’s 2014 album Redefined, a significant effort that saw the producer’s first foray into live elements and instrumentation via his use of string quartets, violas, violins, double bass, guitarists, live vocalists and much more.

Collide also sees tyDi implement his conservatory training as well as his academic classical music degree and musical upbringing.

An accomplished musician, tyDi enlisted two times GRAMMY award-winning composer and seasoned veteran Christopher Tin to help bring Collide to the masses. Best known for his composing and scoring work across the concert music, film and video game industries, Tin has won multiple awards and accolades: In 2011, his choral piece ‘Baba Yetu’ from the video game ‘Civilization IV’ became the first piece of video game music to win a Grammy Award, while his album ‘Calling All Dawns’ took home a second Grammy for Best Classical Crossover Album that same year.

tyDi said of his collaboration with Tin,

To make my dream album, I needed someone experienced who was a king in the composing world, this is the type of composition you can only get from an entire orchestra, and I owe so much to Christopher.

For tyDi, it all now comes full circle on Collide, his most ambitious and most challenging project to date.

When you watch a film with an intense score, you’re swept away to a different planet. The atmosphere, emotions, melodies, and instruments captivate you. That feeling doesn’t always enter the dance realm. I wanted to capture that magic and bring it to the electronic world.

Still, all the minute details, all the long hours in the studio and all the sleepless nights that went into the album are evident throughout Collide. And, according to tyDi, this is only the beginning.

I’m at a point in my career where I’m not satisfied doing the same thing. All the ambition, all the drive behind this album comes from the need and internal desire to combine every single thing I’ve ever learned in my musical career and put it into this project, to show everyone what I’m capable of.

UK Techno Duo Pig and Dan

Uk Techno duo Pig and Dan, individually known as Igor Tchkotoua and Dan Duncan, are a UK based techno duo that formed after a chance meeting on a flight to Spain. In 1999, both Igor and Dan coincidentally were on the same plane to Spain. They struck up a conversation, and the rest is, as they say, history.

Prolific DJ Duo

Pig & Dan have played alongside some the biggest names in the techno and house music world, as well as headlined themselves. They’ve been a part of the most significant global festivals including

  • Ultra

They’ve blessed the decks in some of the most famous nightclubs worldwide such as Amnesia Ibiza, Ushuaia Ibiza, Crobar Buenos Aries, Output New York, Womb Tokyo, and the Eden Terrace atop Nocturnal Nightclub Miami.

The Production Team

Pig & Dan have nearly twenty years together produced some of the most prolific music in techno. While they have a signature sound, which is precisely recognizable, they have the uncanny ability to push their musical envelope. It’s a contradiction to be identifiable and diverse at the same time, which is a testament to their talent.

Pig & Dan have released music on renowned labels such as Sven Väth’s Cocoon Recordings, Slam’s Soma, John Digweed’s Bedrock, Monika Kruse’s Terminal M and Richie Hawtins’ Plus 8. Apart from their extensive discography they’ve collaborated and remixed for the some of the industries greats including Underworld, DEADMAU5, John Digweed, and Innercity with their massive classic Goodlife.

After so many years in the business plus four albums under their belt, the dynamic duo took it upon themselves to push their envelope on LP number five by producing the much acclaimed downtempo album ‘Destination Unknown.’ Boasting flavors of Hip-Hop, Dub, and soul, they managed to top the Beatport chart from more than four months in a genre they have never cut previously.

Both behind the decks and in the studio they’ve proved that their momentum is continuously rising. They’ve had a year playing the world’s most famous venues and celebrated a #1 in both the overall and Techno genres on Beatport with their smash hit ‘Growler.’

Pig & Dan also released the album ‘Modular Baptism’ on their label Elevate. Hailed as an accurate reference to their unique sonic diversity, it shot straight to #1 on the Beatport release charts.

They released their ‘Mexico’ EP on Adam Beyer’s Drumcode which celebrated yet again top ten hits. They also had the honor of compiling and mixing the final Space Ibiza compilation CD alongside Carl Cox. Their latest collaboration with Techno Queen Monika Kruse on her own imprint Terminal M smashed up the Beatport charts once again.

Currently the dynamic duo is once again celebrating top ten on Beatport with their remix of Kollektiv Turmstrasse’s hit track ‘Sorry I’m late.’ This latest remix has gained massive support from industry leaders such as Solomun and Maceo Plex.

The future is blinding with upcoming collaborations ready for release with artists Adam Beyer, Harvey Mckay, ANNA, and Stephan Hinz. Their track, ‘La Bruja,’ was featured on Drumcode’s prolific A-Sides compilation.

Dutch EDM DJ Producer Sander van Doorn

Background

Dutch EDM DJ Producer Sander van Doorn was born in February 1979 in Eindhoven, Netherlands. He started his musical career in 1995 at the age of seventeen. Enamored with his brother’s Roland Groovebox 303, Sander began his journey into electronic music. He borrowed his cousin’s records and his brother’s Groovebox and learned his craft.

Musical Style

Sander has created his unique sound and style. He style has ranged from tech house and progressive house to vocal electro house to trance and tech trance. It’s impossible to appoint one specific genre to him; his music gets influenced by a vast spectrum of factors.

He is a producer at heart and started DJing to generate exposure for his productions. He continues to be an immensely prolific and diverse producer, with his prodigious solo output plus extensive collaborations helping him to amass millions of plays on YouTube and Spotify. ‘Gold Skies’ for example has picked up well over 60 million streams alone, making for one of the biggest hits of his career so far. His A&R skills show no sign of faltering either with his DOORN Records imprint unleashing a steady stream of big names and hot new talents alike.

Purple Haze

2017 saw him launch his intoxicating alias Purple Haze, dedicated to a “sharper, darker, rougher” sound. He unveiled the project at Ultra Music Festival with a spectacular audio-visual live show that vividly brought to life his new concept. Later in the year, he released the debut Purple Haze album, SPECTRVM: a riot of dark trance and tough techno with some standout vocals to boot. Rather than taking luster away from his usual SvD sounds, the new project has created a positive, synergized feedback loop in his studio.

Too often I’ve seen artists lose their focus when they try to combine too many different sounds, but I get so much creative energy from working on this project that it’s added to the creative flow for Sander van Doorn.

It’s just the start of Purple Haze, with some very big plans in the works — and with such a positive reaction from fans, more material is hotly anticipated.

Accomplishments

Today, Sander has performed thousands of shows in every corner of the world and released numerous solo records, yet he is still part of a group of innovative and progressive artists. Sander’s creative process exists of re-inventing musical styles, taking risks in regards to the sound he creates and most importantly staying ahead of the masses. Regular appearances at world-beating clubs and festivals like Creamfields, Tomorrowland, UNTOLD Festival and Electric Daisy Carnival pepper his hectic diary which sees him plays to tens of thousands across the globe every month.

Sander has three full-length albums, numerous hit-singles, remixes of the world’s most prominent artists, and sold-out gigs in all major venues and festivals worldwide. He has a successful record label and a weekly radio show named Identity. Sander van Doorn continues his musical journey into the heart of fans around the world.

He headlined Night Shift on the Eden Terrace at Nocturnal Nightclub, Miami, alongside residents Joseph Areas and Snay & Gin in 2010.

Fehrplay, House Music

Norwegian Progressive House DJ Producer Fehrplay

Norwegian Progressive House DJ Producer Fehrplay, born Jonas Von Der Fehr, has his roots in the Manchester underground scene. He realized that a formal education in music could not provide the real-life experience he believed he needed. Without haste, he replaced his training in music production with an ascent through the UK club circuit. His first release on Cruzaders label was ‘Wejiouna’ in 2009 received accolades from Axwell and Eric Morillo.

Fehrplay’s paramount breakthrough came in 2010 with the release of his original track, ‘Meow.’ It caught the attention and admiration of Pete Tong, who harkened it a new Essential tune contender. It did its job in Miami as well as being crowned the unofficial Miami anthem that year.

In 2011 he released the track ‘Ayita’ on Ministry of Sound, earning airtime on radio stations all over the world.

Pryda Friends

In 2012 he signed with Pryda Friends being only the second producer to receive such an honor. His first EP on Pryda, ‘Incognito’ was released on June 25, 2012. While championing the sound of his peers within the Pryda Friends stronghold, his sound has continued to differentiate itself and added to the label’s powerful grasp on the digital market.

2013 saw the Pryda Friends Tour featuring both of Prydz’s like-minded proteges, Jeremy Olander and Fehrplay. They toured the United States from August through November.

A concoction of cinematic scores and melodic composure, his lust to evoke emotion coherently for the club floor has made his sound difficult to label, but one that continues to thrill amid the press and play generation. With an ethos that a good melody and poignant groove can reign indestructible, the journey from 2012’s ‘Incognito’ to ‘I Can’t Stop,’ ‘Phantom’ and the deep and melodic ‘Monte’ has kept fans and industry tastemakers in awe. From outspoken euphoria to cuts from the playbooks of deep house and techno, his studio repertoire to date plays with unlimited caliber.

In the club, Jonas has shown an encyclopedic musical knowledge. Relishing the opportunity to play personal favorites, new and old, and cuts that never entirely broke into the digital market, his ability to draw music from across the dance music spectrum has proven an undeniable asset. It is this approach has seen him successfully captivate the American market with an agenda as educational to fans new-and-old as it is indicative of fuelling global club land and its ever-expanding dance floors.

On the eve of reclaiming and redefining modern progressive house music, Fehrplay is not resting. Expect high profile collaborations, further North American unearthing, and an extended global spree.

Swedish Prodigy Jeremy Olander

House Music, Jeremy Olander

Swedish Progressive House DJ Producer Jeremy Olander

Swedish Progressive House DJ Producer Jeremy Olander, described as the savior of real progressive house music made famous by Sasha and John Digweed, burst onto the scene in 2009. Made famous by Eric Prydz’s Pryda Friends label, he produced seven tracks on Pryda and played Madison Square Garden. He headlined the 2013 Pryda Friends Tour across the United States with Fehrplay, Prydz’s other protege.

SWEDISH ROOTS

Born in Fairfax, VA in America to a Swedish father and an Indian mother, Jeremy was brought up in Stockholm and become exposed to the city’s small but passionate electronic scene in his early teens. With role models in the likes of Adam Beyer, Cari Lekebusch and Joel Mull leading the charge, Jeremy found sources of inspiration at defunct legendary club Grodan Cocktail Club among Stockholm techno royalty, as well with Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, Berry Gordy, Shigeru Miyamoto and east coast hip-hop.

His deep and emotionally charged style aside, true to his Swedish electronic music heritage, Jeremy also masters the craft of driving, drum-oriented techno under his enigmatic Dhillon monicker. With multiple tracks on fellow Swede Adam Beyer’s Drumcode label, one of the most coveted in the world, Olander displays his near uncanny breadth as a producer.

In the last three years, the now 30-year-old has kicked his career into the proverbial next gear. Almost reemerging as a new artist after finishing his formative years at Pryda, Olander appeared on Canadian label microCastle, home to Guy J, Eagles & Butterflies, Chaim, Navar, with the stupendous three-track ‘Goliath’ EP that also featured a Marc Marzenit remix. To this day, the EP remains the best performing release in the label’s history, making #1 and #2 on Beatport’s genre and overall releases charts respectively.

Shortly after, Olander was invited to join Suara, home to Gaiser, Pete Tong, Betoko, Harvey McKay, Edu Imbernon, DJ Hell and more, by label founder Coyu himself. The Spanish powerhouse, that’s been Resident Advisor’s most charted label for multiple years straight, released the ‘Hanover’ and ‘Talespin’ EPs that both became two of the best-selling releases of the year in 2015 and 2016. Particularly noteworthy is ’Panorama’ off the ‘Talespin’ EP, that made the Top 30 on the Beatport Top 100 and stayed at #1 on the Beatport Top 100 Progressive Chart for astonishing 35 days straight.

On the remix tip, Digitalism, Henry Saiz, Dosem and 16 Bit Lolitas, all collaborated with him. His latest remix on Sailor & I and Eekkoo’s ‘LETTERS’ on Big Beat/Atlantic has amassed over 1.1 million streams on Spotify and topped the Beatport charts despite heavy competition from fellow remix artists Doctor Dru, Kidnap Kid and Diynamic’s young guns NTFO.

THE CONSUMMATE PERFORMER

Even though he’s technically a producer first and DJ second, one would think the opposite when experiencing Olander in an intimate club environment or large festival setting. He’s graced virtually all major festival stages in the world such as Creamfields, Mysteryland, Baum Park, CRSSD, EDC, and Ultra. With his relentless touring schedule and ever-growing demand in club globally, he’s visited Amnesia in Ibiza, Bahrein in Buenos Aires, Sound in Los Angeles, Output in New York City, Goodbar in Sydney, Kyo in Singapore, Spybar in Chicago and The Cat & Dog in Tel Aviv to name a few. Adding to this already impressive list of achievements, in 2017, he accepted a residency at Sound Nightclub in Los Angeles, where industry legends such as Pete Tong, Guy Gerber, and Marco Carola as alumni.

In late 2015, in an attempt to gain control and vertically integrate his creative visions in all aspects of his career, Olander founded Vivrant. Now, almost two years into its existence, the label has become one of the most exciting and forward-thinking in recent memory. With a clear vision and well-crafted profile, 7 of 8 of its EP releases has made it to #1 on Beatport. With a steady stream of peer and fan support, it’s clear as day the label’s sound has filled a void. Described by Olander as a creative refuge for himself and others, Vivrant is already home to established artists in the likes of Henry Saiz, Finnebassen, and Jamie Stevens, as well as to new, emerging talent such as Khen, Eekkoo, Charlie Thorstensson and Tim Engelhardt.

Coupled with its steady stream of quality releases, Vivrant has also become synonymous with sold out label showcases. In October of 2016, Olander took Vivrant to an abandoned 1200 capacity warehouse in the outskirts of Stockholm. He invited Henry Saiz and Finnebassen to join him, marking Saiz’s first-ever show on Swedish soil and ended up selling out the venue with fans outside the venue clamoring to get inside.

In the summer of 2017, Olander created another offshoot Vivrant event concept succinctly called Vivrant Open. Described as a free, no-nonsense open-air show conceived in collaboration with Heineken as a means of giving back to fans, they announced the event the same week it took place and attracted a massive 1800 person crowd at Långholmen in central Stockholm.

2017 is becoming a Hallmark year for Olander. Musically, he realized a long time dream with the release of the celebrated debut EP, ‘Last Dance.’ Olander collaborated with Cristoph from Knee Deep In Sound, and they released the EP on Digweed’s label, Bedrock. He subsequently released two more EPs, ‘Gattaca’ and ‘Damon.’

Olander continued his hectic tour schedule, which included a guest play with Sasha, John Digweed, Art Department and Dubfire at Privilege. The first-ever Vivrant showcase outside Stockholm debuted at ADE in October.
